Church Outhouse in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula Then and Now

Back in the late 90’s, I was driving my two sons to see the air show at Oshkosh, Wisconsin. On the way, we located many old Outhouses that were in all kinds of shape. Below are a revisit to those old Outhouses and how thy look in 2020.

I will add a link here to the original page I built when we drove by and took pictures of all these Outhouse. If you look closely, you may see one or more of my sons in the pictures. They are both grown and married now! Here is the original page with all the original photographs. Once you open the page, Fishdam is near the top as well as the Church Outhouse. The Communication Tower Outhouse is about 2/3 of the way down the page.

The first set of pictures are from an Outhouse that sits behind an old church. Before modern day plumbing, most churches had at least one Outhouse for the people to use. This is a great example of that.

The second Outhouse that I visited is located within a chain link fence at a communication tower. This Outhouse is really in bad shape is probably not used any longer but it’s still there so this is what it looks like in September 2020.

The third Outhouse that I visited is a more modern Outhouse and I actually used it after taking the pictures. It is located at the Fish Dam boat launch off Route 2 in the UP of Michigan.
