Passing of the Backhouse pamphlet found (circa early 1900’s)

Once in a while, a treasure is found and this is one of them. What are the odds that someone would find this? In his own words, the owner of this great work describes what he found.

I read with interest your postings regarding the poem The Passing of the Backhouse.  As I was going through my Grandmother’s belongings, I found a 10 1/2 in. x 6 5/8 in. folded pamphlet that contains said poem.

My Grandmother was born in Jay County IN, near Portland, in 1893.  She lived in Portland, IN, Muncie, IN, Bedford, IN and finally in Indianapolis, IN.  There is no date on the pamphlet but it appears to have seen a lot of use.

There was one line I could not make out, which is why I went online looking for a copy of the poem.  Your site has it – “We’d bundle up the dear old man”.  I have a collection of four books by James Whitcomb Riley from 1905 and 1908.  The Poem is not in any of those collections.  Shown above are scanned images of the front and back of the pamphlet.
